Sound Spotter Beginning Sounds Games for Kindergarten

Build phonemic awareness with these interactive beginning-sound games! Students listen to spoken letter sounds and words, then identify pictures that begin with the target sound.

The activity is built to feel like a game and progresses, giving students repeated practice with beginning sounds in a simple, self-paced format.

Teachers can:

  • Give students specific letters to work on to match curriculum or allow free-play.
  • Encourage students to use the replay ↻ button in the top right to hear instructions again.

Each activity opens in a new tab. Students should exit the tab (once the activity is completed) to return to this menu page.

Teachers may also want to use the ABC games page as an alternative, which includes these games for each letter.

Explore our collection of 26 free, digital beginning-sound activities designed to help young learners build phonemic awareness by listening for and identifying letter sounds. The Sound Spotter activities provide simple, interactive practice using familiar words and pictures.

Each game focuses on one letter of the alphabet.

Use this page as your main hub to access beginning sound activities for each letter of the alphabet (yes, even the short vowel sounds!):

  • Students can work on the activities in any order or focus on specific letters that align with your current instruction.
  • Each activity/game opens in a new tab.
  • Students should exit the tab (once the game is completed) to return to this menu page.
